More than 1,800 people visit Samarco sites in 2023

Through a tour program, the company has shown its facilities in Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo to students, institutions, communities and Public Authorities

In 2023, Samarco received more than 1,800 people at the Germano complex, in Mariana (MG), and Ubu, in Anchieta (ES), as part of its ‘Samarco Aberta’ Visit Program. The initiative provides a tour of the units and the production process to students, institutions, organizations, industry companies, communities and public authorities. The program aims at increasing the transparency of the company's processes and strengthening relations with society, in line with its purpose of performing mining differently.

“The Visit Program is a way of reinforcing our relationships of trust and dialogue with the external public. It is another opportunity to show that we are truly committed to making mining safer and more sustainable. These agendas also help us assess our contributions to the territories where we operate", highlighted the Germano Complex Processing Manager, Edmilson de Freitas Campos.

In Germano, the program had the participation of students from the Antônio Pereira State School (Ouro Preto district) and training courses, held in partnership with the National Industrial Learning Service (Senai), in Santa Rita Durão (Mariana district), while in the municipality of Catas Altas, it involved students from the Education for Democracy Program, part of the Young Parliament of Catas Altas, Santa Bárbara Commercial and Business Association, AvanTea Group (group of parents with autistic children) and Rio Doce Labs in Mariana. Visitors toured units such as the Monitoring and Inspection Center (CMI), the Integrated Operations Center (COI) and Mirante da Mina Scenic Overlook.

“The initiative was also important to show us that people are interested in getting to know our facilities and how the production process works. Samarco Aberta is another tool to bring Samarco closer to communities, local businesspeople and public authorities”, highlighted the general manager of Ubu Operations, Alysson Werneck.

In Ubu, in addition to the IOC, people visited the 4th Pelletizing Plant and the Port of Ubu. Residents of surrounding communities such as Mãe-Bá, Bairro Benavente and Fisherman's Communities, Artisans from Mãe-Bá, representatives of the Government and the City Council of Anchieta, students from the municipality's Public Education, Young People from the Leadership Training Program of the ES in Action and Leadership from the municipalities of the South Coast were among the participants in these agendas. For 2024, the company is evaluating possibilities to offer tours to more people and institutions.
