Thirty-nine people from the community of Camargos, district of Mariana (MG), participated, on August 25, in the practical emergency drill carried out by the Municipal Civil Defense, in partnership with Samarco. The drill follows procedures from the Mining Dam Emergency Action Plan (PAEBM) and aims at testing and improving safety protocols, preparing communities for emergencies.
In addition to residents, the drill was attended by other people, including organizers and observers, and lasted 32 minutes. “Community participation is very important for us to improve our action plan. Emergency drills are opportunities to review, in practice, the processes of interdependence, roles, responsibilities, resource management and incidents,” emphasizes Samarco geotechnical engineer Dirley Bernardi Rodrigues. She also highlights that the drill strengthens integration with response agencies such as the Fire Department and Civil Defense.
Exercise – During the drills, a real siren sounded, preceded by a message informing participants that it was a drill and that people should follow the escape routes and go to the defined muster points.
On Sunday, September 1st, the drill will take place in Ponte do Gama, district of Mariana (MG), which will also be guided by PAEBM.
Monitored structures - All of Samarco's geotechnical structures are stable and are monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week, through the Integrated Safety System, which includes the Monitoring and Inspection Center (CMI), which has more than 2,000 state-of-the-art pieces of equipment and teams of technicians who carry out inspections in the field.
