The Definitive Compensation Program, which ended on July 4th, was the last opportunity for compensation under the New Rio Doce Agreement.
The deadline for new applications to the Definitive Compensation Program (PID) ended on July 4, 2025, with over 290,000 applications submitted. Created under the New Rio Doce Agreement, PID provides BRL 35,000 (single payment) to individuals and companies that meet simplified eligibility criteria.
More than 220,000 deals of the total applications submitted have already been signed, and the approval rate exceeds 90%. The expectation is that all approved deals will be finalized by the end of 2025 and all services will be provided by 2026, as planned.
To date, more than 101,800 payments have been made. To receive compensation, it is necessary to sign a Term of Settlement, which implies waiving any ongoing national and international legal actions.
“PID fulfilled its role by expanding the scope of reparation with legal security. It was the last opportunity for people and companies that had not yet received compensation to have access to a definitive solution,” Samarco's legal expert, Laura Sarti Mozelli highlighted.
Who can still join PID?
Although the deadline for new applications to PID ended on July 4, 2025, people with compensation requests in progress in the PIM-AFE, Novel, or Agro-Pesca systems may still join the program if they receive denials or withdraw their request. In these cases, the deadline is up to 90 days from the date of the denial of the request on the respective platform or the withdrawal of the request in these other compensation channels — except for denials due to fraud, which are not eligible for PID.
No deduction for the applicant
As stipulated in the Reparation Agreement, Samarco also covered legal fees related to the compensation claims, including PID, without any deductions for the applicants. In case of PID, the amount of BRL 1,750.00 (equivalent to 5% of the compensation) is paid directly to the lawyers, assuring that the BRL 35,000 is received in full by the compensated individuals. Any additional fees that may have been negotiated between lawyer and client are under the sole responsibility of the parties, and Samarco is not liable for any payment. In cases handled by the Public Defender's Office, the service is provided completely free of charge.
