Samarco reports that, as provided in the New Rio Doce Agreement, water treatability tests were carried out on the Rio Doce in the municipalities of Itueta and Resplendor, the laboratory analyses of which were made by laboratories duly accredited by nationally recognized entities.
The results were validated by AECOM, an independent auditing company which provides services to the State Committee of Minas Gerais, composed of the Government of Minas Gerais and justice institutions that monitor the execution of the New Agreement. The technical report indicates that the water is within the specifications of the Brazilian legislation and can be consumed after conventional treatment carried out at the Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) of the two municipalities.
Currently, negotiations are underway for Copasa to resume the water intake directly from Rio Doce.
