Program run by Samarco enters its final 30 days with 6,000 more new registrations after the platform was reopened at the request of the Brazilian Justice Institutions

Less than 15 days after the reopening of the Definitive Compensation Program (PID), the first payments in this new phase were made, totaling approximately BRL 1.6 million in compensation. This outcome DEMONSTRATES the speed of the digital model adopted by PID, which provides a simplified flow for document submission and validation, acceptance of the proposal, and payment, as set out in the New Rio Doce Agreement.
With 30 days left until the deadline to join the PID, more than 6,000 people have already signed up on the platform since the system was reopened on May 18, 2026. Run by Samarco and reopened at the request of the Brazilian Justice Institutions, the program will remain available until July 1, 2026 for eligible individuals and legal entities, with an individual compensation of R$ 35,000.00.
The balance sheet for the first two weeks since reopening shows intense participation in the program and an expedited claims review process. The PID features simplified document verification and fast, reliable payment, having compensated more than 90% of the people and companies that joined the platform since its creation.
The reopening includes people who had not previously joined the platform, as well as cases in which claims were closed due to an invalid power of attorney, missed document correction deadline, missed acceptance deadline, or rejected compensation proposal. Registration can be completed free of charge through the Public Defender's Office or by a private attorney, upon presentation of a valid power of attorney.
Agreement Disbursements
By April 2026, the PID had already compensated more than 304,000 people, surpassing BRL 11.2 billion paid out in individual compensation. The program is part of the set of actions set out in the New Rio Doce Agreement, approved by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) in November 2024.
Since the approval of the New Rio Doce Agreement, BRL 42.11 billion have been allocated to remediation actions, of which BRL 24.42 billion were carried out directly by Samarco. Of this total, BRL 17.7 billion were paid directly to people, through the different compensation channels and Emergency Financial Assistance, benefiting more than 337,000 individuals. BRL 17.69 million were allocated for payment obligations.
The New Rio Doce Agreement also includes investments in health, basic sanitation, road infrastructure and environmental recovery in Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, in addition to measures aimed at the individual and collective remediation of the territories.
