The company reinforces actions against misinformation and highlights the importance of verifying eligibility criteria, deadlines, and program conditions through reliable sources and official channels
Samarco reinforces the importance of consulting all information related to the Definitive Indemnity Program (PID) exclusively through official channels and reliable sources. In a scenario with widespread circulation of content on social media and messaging applications, the company warns of the risks of fake news, incomplete information, and misleading content that may generate doubts or influence decisions without proper knowledge of the program's criteria.
The reopening of the PID represents an opportunity to submit claims to the aforementioned indemnification program until July 1, 2026. The program was established under the New Rio Doce Agreement, which was ratified by the Brazilian Supreme Court (STF) in November 2024. Since its reopening, the PID has already recorded more than 7,000 applications.
"Generic information, promises of results, uncontextualized comparisons, or shared content without verification do not replace the analysis of the eligibility criteria, the required documentation, which is simplified, and the legal effects established for receiving the indemnity. It is crucial for each individual to have their questions answered through the appropriate official channels and with their legal representatives," reinforced Samarco's legal specialist, Laura Mozelli. She further states: "Samarco does not charge any fee to consult or to apply for the PID. Anyone can verify, free of charge, if they are eligible to apply for the program."
The PID was structured within the Brazilian legal system, with rules and criteria defined under the New Agreement, and seeks to ensure legal certainty, predictability, and promptness in the reparation process. The program provides for a single lump-sum payment of R$ 35,000 for eligible individuals and legal entities, subject to meeting the established requirements and being represented by the Public Defense Office, which provides free legal assistance, or by a private attorney with a valid power of attorney.
Samarco remains committed to information transparency through actions that broaden public awareness, contributing to the fight against fake news and misleading content. For more information about the PID, visit samarco.com/indenizacao
