The platform remains open until August 15th; since reopening, 13,900 new requests have already been registered

There are only 15 days left until the deadline to join the Definitive Compensation Program (PID), one of the main compensation initiatives set out in the New Rio Doce Agreement. Eligible individuals and legal entities may join the program until August 15, 2026, through the Public Defender's Office or a private attorney with a valid power of attorney.
The PID requires simplified documentation and, if the applicant meets the program criteria, the eligibility analysis is quick, with an average time between entry into the program and payment of approximately 20 days, considering all stages of the procedure, including judicial approval.
Since the program reopened on May 18, 2026, the PID has registered more than 13,900 new applications, 10,400 agreements were signed, and more than 8,900 payments were made. By July 30, 2026, more than 315,000 people had already received compensation through the program, totaling BRL 11.6 billion in payments.
"We are in the final days to join the PID. Therefore, we advise eligible individuals to contact their legal representative as soon as possible to verify the necessary documentation and file the application within the deadline. Our commitment is to ensure that eligible people have access to the information and can exercise their right," highlighted Samarco's lawyer, Julio Gomes.
Those eligible to join the PID are:
- Eligible individuals and legal entities that had not yet requested compensation on the platform; and
- People whose applications were closed due to an invalid power of attorney;
In addition to these groups, individuals who were previously unable to reach an agreement due to missing the deadline for correcting identification documents or proof of address have had their applications reopened and may complete the necessary procedures until August 14, 2026.
The eligibility criteria remain the same and follow the parameters established in the New Rio Doce Agreement. These include being over 16 years old on the date of the Fundão dam rupture and meeting at least one of the following conditions: having requested registration with the defunct Renova Foundation by December 31, 2021; or have a lawsuit filed by October 26, 2021 (provided that the lawsuit does not deal exclusively with water damage); or have entered the Novel system by September 29, 2023, without a previously concluded agreement.
Community outreach efforts reinforce guidance for the population
To broaden access to information and guide potential applicants in this final stretch, Samarco continues to promote Q&A sessions in municipalities in Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo.
In the coming days, residents of Colatina and Governador Valadares will be able to receive in-person assistance to ask questions about the PID, learn about eligibility criteria, obtain guidance on the necessary documentation, and understand the steps for joining the program.
In Colatina, the service will be provided on August 5th and 6th (Wednesday and Thursday), from 9 am to 2 pm, at the Divino Espírito Santo Parish Hall, located at Travessa Antônio Zago, nº 304, Bairro Maria das Graças.
On August 6th and 13th (Thursday), from 10 am to 4 pm, the team will be in Governador Valadares, at the Municipal Market.
