On this Wednesday (11), approximately 450 people participated in the webinar “Fire Prevention and Control”, promoted by Samarco. The initiative, which was attended by representatives of the mining company and community leaders from the districts of Santa Rita Durão (Mariana, MG) and Antônio Pereira (Ouro Preto, MG) aimed at expanding knowledge and encourage reflection on the importance of fire prevention and protection.
On that occasion, the captain of the Military Fire Department, Warley Barbosa, presented a plan to prepare for forest fires. The agricultural engineer from ICMBio, Amarílio Fernandes, spoke about preventing and fighting fires in the Serra do Gandarela National Park. The Automation and Instrumentation coordinator at Samarco, Cézar Valadares, told how the monitoring is carried out with the cameras installed by the company at Parque do Gandarela.
The general manager of Sustainability at Samarco, Daniel Medeiros, stated that Environmental Education is an important tool and a powerful instrument for sustainability, in the pursuit of doing mining differently.
“By sharing knowledge and experiences with our internal audience and the community, we bring information that allows people to act in fire prevention and firefighting and learn about Samarco's efforts to genuinely support all these processes,” he said.
“Since we adopted the online format, due to the pandemic, we have been achieving more and more participation and involvement. It is a great challenge to promote Environmental Education in digital media, but it has been through these channels that we have had the opportunity to encourage participation and facilitate reflection on the role of each individual as a transformation agent inside and outside the company", evaluated the Environment analyst Vinicius Loyola.
Awareness
The promotion of the fire awareness event came at a good time. This is because, at this time of year, dry weather and low air humidity favor the spread of fire and therefore, care must be redoubled. On the same day, in the afternoon, the program continued, this time with a workshop on emergency management focused on fire prevention for Samarco's internal public: both employees and contractors participated.
Both actions are part of the Fire Prevention Campaign, an initiative of the Environmental Education Program (PEA), in partnership with the Internal Accident Prevention Commission (Cipa) and the Internal Accident Prevention Commission in Mining (Cipamin). To enrich and reinforce the topics covered on the day, three videos were produced and posted on WhatsApp with short animated messages.
