10 days remain until the deadline for joining the PID

Run by Samarco, the PID records an average time of 19 days between joining and compensation payment

Ten days remain until the deadline to join the Definitive Compensation Program (PID, acronym in Portuguese), set out in the New Rio Doce Agreement. As requested by the Brazilian Justice Institutions, the current stage of the program remains open until July 1, 2026 and is meant for eligible individuals and legal entities that have not yet joined the PID or whose previous claims were dismissed due to an invalid power of attorney.

Since reopening on May 18, 2026, the PID has already recorded more than 8,700 entries, 5,624 agreements signed, with payments made to 3,293 people. The program provides individual compensation of BRL 35,000 for eligible individuals and companies. In total, more than 305,000 people have already been compensated by the program, which had already paid out BRL 11.2 billion in compensation through May 2026.

Expedited payment
In cases where all documentation is submitted correctly at the time of joining, including submission of a valid power of attorney, the average time between joining the program and being paid compensation has been 19 days. This period considers all stages of the process, from filing the claim to judicial approval of the agreement and the deposit of the amount to the claimant.

"The PID process was structured to provide a simple, secure, and agile process, always observing the criteria defined in the New Rio Doce Agreement. When all documentation is submitted correctly, the process can be completed in less than three weeks between the opening of the request and the payment of compensation. Samarco remains committed to including the largest possible number of eligible people in the shortest possible timeframe”, says Samarco’s Compensation Manager, Mariana Azevedo.

Admission to the program must take place through the Public Defender's Office, whose service is completely free, or by a private attorney, upon presentation of a valid power of attorney. If a private attorney is chosen, the 5% legal fees provided for in the New Agreement shall be paid by Samarco, with no deduction from the compensation amount. Any additional amounts eventually agreed between the client and the attorney shall not be covered by the company.

Individuals and legal entities who meet the criteria defined in the New Rio Doce Agreement may participate in the PID, including those who requested to join the now-defunct Renova Foundation by December 31, 2021, filed a lawsuit by October 26, 2021, or joined the Novel system by September 29, 2023.

Information about the PID must be obtained exclusively through Samarco's official channels and from the claimants' legal representatives. The company does not charge any fee for eligibility review or joining the program. More information is available at samarco.com/indenizacao.
