Carried out by Samarco under the New Rio Doce Agreement, the program provides individual compensation of BRL 35,000 for eligible individuals and legal entities

Only one week remains before the deadline closes to join the Definitive Compensation Program (PID), established under the New Rio Doce Agreement. Eligible individuals and legal entities that have not yet filed a claim have until August 15, 2026 to apply for the individual compensation of BRL 35,000.
Since the deadline extension announced in July, thousands of new claims have been registered on the platform. In this stage of the program, more than 14,400 new entries have already been recorded, expanding access to compensation for people who had not yet joined the PID or whose previous claims had been closed due to the submission of an invalid power of attorney.
Carried out by Samarco, the PID is one of the reparation measures provided for under the New Rio Doce Agreement. As of July 2026, the program had already compensated more than 316,800 people, with more than BRL 11.6 billion paid out in individual compensation.
"The deadline is approaching, and it is important for eligible people not to leave it until the last few days. Anyone who intends to apply should gather the necessary documents and contact a trusted lawyer or the Public Defender's Office to file the claim before the deadline", says Laura Sarti Mozelli, legal specialist at Samarco.
Who may apply
At this stage, the following may apply to join the program:
- Eligible individuals and legal entities that have not yet filed a claim with the PID;
- People whose claims were previously closed due to the submission of an invalid power of attorney.
In addition to these groups, people who were previously unable to reach an agreement because they missed the deadline to correct an identification document or proof of address have had their claims reopened and may submit the necessary documents until August 14, 2026.
Entry into the PID must be carried out by a lawyer or public defender through the program's official platform.
Program maintains simplified process
The PID was designed to offer a simplified compensation process. After the documentation is submitted and the claim is validated, the program follows a digital workflow through offer presentation, acceptance, court approval, and payment of the compensation. In cases where the documentation is submitted in full at the time of application and the claimant meets the program's criteria, the average time between application and payment is 20 days, demonstrating the agility of the operating model.
Information on eligibility criteria, required documentation, and how the platform works is available on Samarco's website.
Attention to official channels
As the deadline approaches, Samarco reinforces its warning that interested parties should seek information only through official channels. False, incomplete, or out-of-context information may create confusion about eligibility criteria, documentation, and application procedures.
