Managed by Samarco, the program provides for an individual indemnity payment of R$ 35,000. Applications may be submitted through the Public Defender’s Office, which offers free legal assistance, or through a private attorney with a valid power of attorney.
The Definitive Indemnity Program (PID), managed by Samarco, has surpassed 8,000 applications since it reopened on May 18, 2026. With 15 days remaining before the deadline, the first-month results show the efficiency and agility of the digital workflow used to review applications, execute settlement agreements, and process payments.
Reopened at the request of Brazilian judicial institutions, the PID will remain available until July 1, 2026, for eligible individuals and legal entities. Each individual or company that meets the program's eligibility criteria may receive an indemnity payment of R$ 35,000.
Since the reopening, approximately 5,000 settlement agreements have been executed, and 1,670 payments have already been made. The results highlight the speed of the model adopted by the PID, which features a streamlined process for document submission and validation, offer acceptance, and payment processing, as established under the New Rio Doce Agreement.
The performance recorded in this first month of reopening demonstrates the effectiveness of the program, which combines simplified documentary evidence with a fast and reliable process. Since its inception, the PID has indemnified more than 90% of the individuals and companies that have entered the platform.
The reopening covers individuals and companies that had not previously entered the system, as well as applications that were closed due to an invalid power of attorney, missed deadlines for document correction or acceptance, or rejection of the indemnity offer. Applications may be completed through the Public Defender’s Office, which offers free assistance, or through a private attorney with a valid power of attorney.
Disbursements under the New Agreement
As of May 2026, the PID has already indemnified more than 305,000 people, with over R$ 11.2 billion disbursed in individual indemnities.
Since the New Rio Doce Agreement was ratified in November 2024, R$ 17.8 billion has been allocated to individual indemnities through the various compensation channels and Emergency Financial Assistance, benefiting more than 363,000 people.
Important Information About the PID
Samarco reinforces that information regarding the PID must be consulted exclusively through official channels and reliable sources. Content shared on social media and messaging apps may contain incorrect, incomplete, or out-of-context information, creating doubts about eligibility criteria, required documentation, and how the program works.
Given that the deadline for application closes on July 1, 2026, the company advises interested parties to seek clarification directly through the official PID channels and with their legal representatives. Samarco does not charge any fee for consultation or application to the program.
