The indemnity program administered by Samarco features a streamlined application process and provides a R$ 35,000 indemnity to eligible individuals and legal entities.
Eligible individuals and legal entities whose applications were closed due to the submission of an invalid power of attorney have a new opportunity to apply to the Definitive Indemnity Program (PID) and request the indemnity provided for in the New Rio Doce Agreement.
The platform was reopened on May 18, 2026, and, with the application deadline extended for an additional 45 days, it will remain available until August 15, 2026. The measure aims to expand access to the program and ensure that eligible individuals can be indemnified, provided they meet the criteria established in the New Agreement.
In addition to cases involving applications closed due to an invalid power of attorney, eligible individuals and legal entities that had not yet requested indemnity on the platform may also join the PID. The extension of the application deadline was established due to the high volume of new applications received since the reopening.
"The objective is to expand access to the program and ensure that eligible individuals have an opportunity to submit their applications," states Laura Sarti Mozelli, legal specialist at Samarco.
Since the program's reopening, the PID has already recorded over 12,000 new applications and 7,400 signed agreements, with more than 5,000 payments made. In cases where all documentation is correctly submitted at the time of application submission, the average time between application submission and payment has been approximately 20 days, considering all stages of the procedure, including judicial approval.
As of June 2026, more than 310,000 people had already received indemnity through the PID, totaling R$ 11.4 billion in payments, consolidating it as the main indemnity pathway provided for in the New Rio Doce Agreement.
