Matipó and Mariana have an emergency drill

The action took place in the Padre Fialho and Camargos districts and brought together 265 residents

Residents of the districts of Padre Fialho, in Matipó, and Camargos, in Mariana, participated in emergency drills promoted by the Civil Defenses of the municipalities, with the support of City Halls and of Samarco. During the training sessions, held on Tuesday (25) and Wednesday (26), respectively, the sirens were activated, simulating an alert for a risk situation. Civil Defense monitored the exercises. The meeting was supported by the Military Fire Department, the Military Police and the Municipal Guard, in Mariana.

In total, 330 people participated in the drills, including 265 residents, 45 organizers, 9 participants from the response agencies (Civil Defense, Municipal Guard and CBMMG) and 11 observers. During the training, people were instructed as to the places that should be accessed, in case of an emergency, validating the escape routes and muster points.

“The participation and engagement of communities helps us to develop a culture of risk prevention. It is essential that more and more people participate in the planned action in self-rescue zones”, said Samarco Risk Expert Melissa Manger, emphasizing that it was possible to carry out 100% of the scope of the Technical Instruction of the State Civil Defense Coordination (Cedec).

The drill was planned according to the rules and procedures of Samarco's Emergency Action Plan for Mining Dams (PAEBM), which provided the infrastructure, vehicles and professionals who participated in the drill.

The events in Padre Fialho and Camargos concluded this year's PAEBMs external drill cycle. On October 9, the action was promoted in Ponte do Gama, district of Mariana.

Management of dams

Samarco's geotechnical structures remain stable, as indicated by the monitoring and follow-up of specialized consultants. Reports on the conditions of these structures are periodically submitted to competent agencies. In recent years, through the Integrated Monitoring Center (CMI), the monitoring of all structures was reinforced with the use of 1,600 pieces of equipment, bringing more safety to operations.
