Run by Samarco, the program remains open until August 15
People eligible for the Definitive Indemnification Program (PID) may still apply to join the program, which is part of the reparation measures provided for under the New Rio Doce Agreement. Applications may be submitted through a legal representative until August 15, 2026. Meeting the program's criteria and submitting the correct documentation help expedite the review of claims; the average time from application to payment is approximately 20 days, including all stages of the procedure, such as court approval.
The following may join PID:
- People whose claims were closed due to an invalid power of attorney;
- Eligible individuals and legal entities that had not yet filed a claim for indemnification through the platform;
- People who were previously unable to enter into an agreement because they missed the deadline to correct identification documents or proof of address, missed the deadline to accept the settlement offer, or rejected the settlement offer previously presented through the platform.
"PID remains available, and we advise interested parties to check their eligibility and contact the official support channels to clarify any questions before accessing the platform. Submitting the correct documentation helps expedite the review of the claim and move the indemnification process forward," said Samarco legal specialist Laura Sarti Mozelli.
The eligibility criteria remain unchanged and follow the parameters established under the New Rio Doce Agreement. Applicants must have been over 16 years of age on the date of the Fundão dam failure and must also meet at least one of the following conditions: have requested registration with the now-defunct Fundação Renova by December 31, 2021; have filed a lawsuit by October 26, 2021 (provided the claim does not relate exclusively to Water Damage); or have joined the Novel system by September 29, 2023, without having previously entered into an agreement.
Program has already benefited more than 310,000 people
Since reopening on May 18, 2026, PID has received more than 13,200 new claims, with 9,100 agreements signed and more than 5,600 payments made. By June 2026, more than 310,000 people had received indemnification through PID. The program has already paid BRL 11.4 billion and has become the primary indemnification channel established under the New Rio Doce Agreement.
