Implemented by Samarco, the Definitive Indemnity Program (PID) received applications between May 18 and August 15, with 11,800 agreements executed.
The Definitive Indemnity Program (PID), provided for in the New Rio Doce Agreement and implemented by Samarco, closed the deadline for new applications last Saturday (August 15). Since the platform's reopening on May 18, 16,900 new applications have been registered, with 11,800 agreements executed. Since the program's initial launch on February 26, 2025, more than R$ 11.6 billion in indemnities have already been paid to 316,800 eligible individuals.
The PID platform was reopened at the request of the Brazilian Judicial Institutions. The deadline, initially scheduled to end on July 1, was subsequently extended for an additional 45 days, expanding access to the program for eligible natural persons and legal entities that had not yet filed an application, and for those whose previous applications had been terminated due to the submission of an invalid power of attorney.
During this stage, the program maintained a digital workflow for application review, proposal submission, agreement execution, and indemnity payment. In cases where documentation was submitted in full at the time of application, the average turnaround time between the application and payment was approximately 20 days, considering all procedural stages, including judicial approval.
Stage Overview
Throughout the 90 days in which the platform remained open for new applications in 2026, the PID recorded:
- 16,900 new applications in 2026;
- 11,800 agreements executed.
The PID provides for an individual indemnity of R$ 35,000 for natural persons and legal entities that meet the eligibility criteria established in the New Rio Doce Agreement. During this stage, eligible individuals who had not yet filed an application and those whose previous applications had been terminated due to the submission of an invalid power of attorney were permitted to enter the program.
Applications were also reopened for individuals who had missed the deadline for proposal acceptance or for correcting identification documents and/or proof of address, as well as in cases involving a proposal rejection.
Next steps
With the deadline for new applications closed, requests submitted within the period continue to follow the standard process outlined in the program. Accordingly, the end of the application deadline does not represent the termination of cases that have already been filed. Therefore, the number of indemnified individuals will increase until the completion of all analyses.
Applicants who have already entered the PID can track the progress of their requests through the User Portal and, when necessary, the legal representative may submit any documents or information requested during the review process.
Samarco reinforces that information regarding the program and its criteria must be consulted exclusively through official channels. Inquiries can be clarified by phone at 0800-033-8485 or through the company's indemnification page (samarco.com/indenizacao).
