Doce River Remediation Agreement: Completion of Resettlements in Novo Bento Rodrigues and Paracatu
The agreement provides for the definitive delivery of resettlements in the districts of Novo Bento Rodrigues, Paracatu and other locations for families who opted for family resettlement.
The resettlements will be performed by Samarco and the last construction of homes and public facilities will be completed and delivered. The projects will continue to be developed together with the communities and the affected parties, under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Minas Gerais and technical advisors, in accordance with global resettlement standards.
The resettlement negotiations that have not yet been concluded will be resumed. Families that have not yet formalized their decision will have up to 60 days, extendable for a maximum of 30 days, to choose a resettlement method. For cases initiated in which the family does not formalize the option for the desired method within the period of up to 90 days, their service will automatically be converted into cash monetary resettlement.
Samarco will continue to provide the necessary support for any construction defects that are notably identified, for a period of five years from the signing of the settlement agreement (handover of keys), as provided for in the agreement.
The Municipal government will take over the management of completed public facilities such as schools, health centers, water and sewage treatment plants in the resettlements.
