Samarco adopted the use of virtual reality glasses to train employees in the operational area, in energy tagout and lockout training. The initiative has been carried out at the Germano units, in Minas Gerais and Ubu, in Espírito Santo, since June this year. The equipment transmits a virtual reality of risk scenarios, motivating more agile and assertive decision making.
The specialist engineer for Occupational Safety, Fabrício Cola, points out that the new technology has brought advances in the preparation of employees, reflecting dangerous situations in a safe and innovative manner for professionals.
“The use of glasses allows employees to receive information on how to proceed before interacting with equipment and also how to effectively lockout energy, so that there is no unexpected discharge thereof. In an environment generated through programming, scenes and objects look real and allow people to feel immersed and interact”, explained Fabricio Cola.
The glasses allow participants to see the facilities of Samarco's units in 3D format, reflecting the reality of each area and presenting different circumstances. The expectation is to expand the course to another 17 topics related to cases of critical risks. Twenty training sessions have already ocurred.
Innovation and Safety
Samarco launched the Movement for Innovation last March, to reinforce the company's mobilization in order to advance its purpose of carrying out mining differently, more sustainable and safer. A series of actions are developed to motivate the adoption of institutional practices that contribute to new solutions.
The Movement is an important milestone for cultural evolution, considering that innovation is one of the cultural traits to be developed, being necessary to guarantee the company's longevity. Moreover, Samarco has 'Safety and Innovation' as one of the pillars of its sustainability strategy, which is committed to broad and efficient risk management and the provision of a safe and healthy environment.
