Samarco advises residents of Padre Fialho on the Emergency Action Plan for Dams

This Sunday (Jun-26) it was the turn of the community of the district of Padre Fialho, in Matipó, to participate in the guidance seminar on the Emergency Action Plan for Mining Dams (PAEBM) Dam EBII. The action was offered by Samarco, in partnership with the Civil Defense of Matipó and the Military Fire Department of Manhuaçu.

The seminar was held in the parish hall of Padre Fialho in order to explain the PAEBM and guide the population in case of emergency situations of the structure, aiming at increasing the response capacity in the preservation of life.

Samarco's risk expert, Melissa Manger, reminded that the seminar is an opportunity to dialogue and introduce communities to the way in which the company manages geotechnical safety processes, and one of the bases for the preparation of practical emergency drills.

“It is an important step towards getting closer to the community, a moment of dialogue to communicate about risk areas, clarify doubts, inform about escape routes and muster points, in addition to instruct on how to preserve the signaling. As a next step, we are preparing to offer practical simulations in the communities, scheduled to take place later this year”, stated Melissa. The orientation seminar has already been held in Ponte do Gama, on Jun-12, and in the district of Camargos, on May-14.

Stable structures

In recent years, Samarco has expanded the Integrated Safety System with the Monitoring and Inspection Center (CMI), which monitors its geotechnical structures 24/7. The Center has approximately 1500 state-of-the-art equipment, which transmits data in real time to a specialized team, made up of specialist technicians and engineers responsible for carrying out visual inspections and systematic interpretation of the results of automatic and manual instruments. Geotechnical monitoring is carried out in accordance with the main engineering safety practices and in an integrated manner. The structures are also monitored by independent audits and have a Dam Integrity Assurance Statement (DCE).
