Samarco boosts launch of the Strategic Plan for the Fishing Chain in Guarapari

The Launch of the Strategic Plan for the Fishing Chain, prepared by the fishermen's associations of Ubu, Parati and Meaípe, took place this Thursday (Jul-07), in Guarapari (ES). The document was presented to government representatives, private institutions and communities at a seminar provided by Samarco. On the occasion, the Atlas of Fishing Communities of Mãe-Bá de Anchieta (Ubu, Parati and Mãe-bá) and Guarapari (Meaípe and Porto Grande) produced with the support of Samarco was also delivered.

“This plan will be an important instrument to direct practices and infrastructure that meet the needs of fishermen and the community. It was prepared considering the preservation of the local culture and environment. Our main goal is to plan actions that foster the socioeconomic development of these fishing professionals, in addition to strengthening relationships through these partnerships”, highlighted Samarco's Institutional Relations analyst, Lidia Praça.

The Plan was produced within the scope of the Fishermen's Community Support Program and integrates the actions mapped to strengthen the category. The document provides strategic planning for the fishing chain with a view to territorial development, and improvements in the quality of life of communities. The program is one of the conditions for the environmental licensing of the Port of Ubu, obtained by Samarco.

“Samarco's support came to add and guide us on how to organize ourselves, gather around a common purpose. It is a joint Strategic Plan for the Fishing Chain that, if we did not have the support of the Samarco team, would never become true. We work hard, we dedicate ourselves a lot, and with that, we are sure that we are capable”, stressed the president of the Association of Fishermen and Oyster Pikers of Meaípe, Cristiano Serafim Santana.

Approximately 60 people, including oyster pickers and professionals from the fishing chain, representatives of municipal and state public authorities, the private sector, entities and universities participated in the meeting. “I have good expectations with the creation of this plan. I believe it will contribute to the development of our work”, highlighted the oyster picker, Gilcelene Cristina Assunção.
