Samarco brings on board 35 people for the Operational Trainee Program

Program gives priority to residents from host communities, women and people with special needs

On Monday (20), Samarco welcomed the 35 people joining the Operational Trainee Program, launched in July this year to support the company's plan to gradually increase its production capacity to 60% by 2025. The vacancies were offered exclusively to women and people with disabilities.

In line with its objective of sharing value with society, the company prioritized the inclusion of a local workforce. Of the total number of people selected, 91% are from communities that host the company in Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo - 23 will work at the Germano Complex (MG) and 12 at the Ubu Complex (ES).

The program also focused on the inclusion of minority groups - 94% of the people selected are women, 60% dark-skinned and 9% with disabilities.

"Our objective of sharing value with society involves promoting the development of professionals who live in the communities that host us. In addition, the program reinforces our commitment to offering development opportunities to minority groups. It's another step of our quest for diverse, equitable and inclusive mining. In addition, we are very happy with the internal recognition, as we had 10 interns from the last programs hired on as trainees in positions available in the operation," says the Attraction and Development manager, Adriana França.

No previous experience was required to take part in the trainee selection process, which allowed the enrollment of people with technical training in automation, metallurgy, instrumentation, mechanics, mining, geology, buildings, information technology, electronics, electrotechnics and electricity.

The new trainees will work in the Integrated Operations Center (IOC) and in the Automation and Instrumentation areas. They will go through a development journey over the first few months in order to improve their technical and personal skills. These initiatives are among the actions developed under the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Program (DE&I) created last year.

One more step completed

In November, the company concluded the Senior Trainee Program that began in December 2021, when 30 recent graduates were hired for development and work on the company's operational resumption, 52% of whom were women. Samarco once more prioritized hiring local people. Of the total, 27 trainees assigned to their new positions will remain at Samarco in operational and administrative areas, in various positions, such as engineers, analysts, geologists, lawyers, among others.

"The conclusion of this senior trainee program reaffirms our quest to attract and support professionals who will make a difference in our business, bringing innovation,

sustainability and other behaviors that foster the changes we seek today and for the future. For two years, this group of recent graduates has gone through a journey of development in order to strengthen their technical and behavioral skills, in line with our cultural traits," said Adriana França, the Attraction and Development manager.

Job creation

The investments of R$1.6 billion announced by the company this year will allow it to safely reach 60% of its production capacity by the first quarter of 2025. With this initiative, the company expects to create around 3,000 jobs, 600 of which will be for technical operational positions at its units in Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo and the rest for temporary projects such as the construction of the new filtration plant, revamping of the concentrator to be put back in operation, and for operational readiness. Direct hiring has already begun on an as-needed basis and is expected to continue until the first half of 2024. New job opportunities that become available can be viewed at the site Vagas.com.
