This Monday (15), Samarco delivered a wharf project for the communities of Ubu and Parati, in Anchieta (ES). The initiative, an investment of approximately BRL 100,000 made by Samarco, includes a wharf with two arms: one for local development, that is, for use by fishermen, and the other for tourist use.
“The demand for a wharf project was brought by the communities and the Ubu/Parati Fishermen’s Association. By delivering this project, we share value with locations where we operate for so many years, in addition to strengthening the production chain providing Ubu and Parati with increasingly more autonomy and social empowerment”, stated Samarco Port Manager, Rodrigo Abreu.
Together, the communities of Ubu and Parati have approximately 200 people who make a living from fishing. The wharf project anticipaes an arm measuring 80 meters and another measuring 120 meters with a berthing side. The construction of the wharf will depend on fundraising.
“This initiative is one of the fishermen's dreams of having more ability to come and go, increase production and raise funds for our community”, said the chairman of the Ubu and Parati Fishermen's Association, Simão Barbosa Pereira.
Community Support Program
Samarco has been developing a program to support fishing communities in five communities close to the Port of Ubu, operated by the company, for four years: Porto Grande and Meaípe, in Guarapari, and Mãe Bá, Ubu and Parati, in Anchieta. The program is one of the conditions for the environmental licensing of the Ponta Ubu Maritime Terminal, operated by Samarco. In recent years, each community has received an atlas that includes an ethnographic, sociocultural and historical portrait of the localities.
The wharf project is part of the strategic plan built by the community of fishermen and shellfish gatherers in the region, through the support program.
