Samarco extends deadline for joining the PID by another 45 days.

The program will remain open until August 15, 2026, and expands access to BRL 35,000 in individual compensation for eligible individuals and legal entities.

The deadline for joining the Permanent Compensation Program (PID) has been extended until August 15, 2026. The measure extends by another 45 days the period for eligible individuals and legal entities to request individual compensation of R$ 35,000, due to the significant volume of new entries registered in this phase. Since the program reopened, the PID has already recorded more than 10,000 new applications, more than 6,000 agreements signed, and more than 4,200 payments made.

In total, more than 305,000 people have already been compensated by the PID, which has allocated BRL 11.2 billion in payments up to May 2026, consolidating itself as one of the main compensation instruments set out in the New Rio Doce Agreement.

Operated by Samarco, the PID has become the main compensation channel set out in the New Rio Doce Agreement. It is intended for eligible individuals and legal entities who have not yet joined the system, as well as those whose previous application was terminated due to an invalid power of attorney. The platform was reopened on May 18, 2026.

"Extending the deadline increases the opportunity for more eligible people to join the PID, which has proven effective, with a simple, secure and agile process." "Our commitment is to ensure that all those who meet the criteria set out in the New Rio Doce Agreement can exercise this right within the new entry period," says Laura Sarti Mozelli, legal specialist at Samarco.

Effectiveness, speed, and simplified verification.

In cases where the documentation is submitted in full at the time of application, applicants have received compensation within an average of 20 days. This timeframe takes into account all stages of the procedure, from entry into the program to the court's approval of the agreement and the execution of the payment.

Fighting misinformation in the territories

Samarco also warns against false, incomplete, or out-of-context information circulating in the territories regarding the operation of the PID (Integrated Disaster Recovery Plan). The eligibility criteria, deadlines, required documentation, and support channels are defined in the New Rio Doce Agreement and can be consulted on the company's official channels, the Public Defender's Office, and other Justice Institutions.

Access to the PID program can be obtained through the Public Defender's Office, which offers free assistance, or through a private lawyer. In the latter case, the legal fees stipulated in the New Agreement, amounting to 5% of the compensation value, are paid directly by Samarco, without any deduction from the amount allocated to the compensated person. Any amounts exceeding this percentage that may be negotiated between the applicant and their lawyer as contractual fees will not be covered by the company.

"It's important to gather all the necessary documentation and seek guidance through official channels so that the application can be submitted within the established deadline," Laura Mozelli emphasized.

Eligibility criteria

The eligibility criteria follow the parameters established in the New Rio Doce Agreement. These criteria include: being over 16 years of age on the date of the Fundão Dam breach; having requested registration with the former Renova Foundation by December 31, 2021; having filed a lawsuit by October 26, 2021 (provided the action does not concern exclusively water damage); or having entered the Novel system by September 29, 2023, without a previously signed agreement.
