Samarco is participating with two new challenges in the third edition of the Industrial Entrepreneurship Program, promoted by Findeslab – an innovation hub for the Espírito Santo industry, launched this month.
In this edition, Samarco is seeking innovative solutions to challenges identified by the port operations team: Management of port operational data and Mechanized maintenance of the anti-corrosion protection of the pier's piles.
The Business Development and Innovation manager, Bruno Pimentel, underlined the importance of open innovation in companies seeking to connect with startups and other players in the innovation ecosystem for the exchange of ideas, information and project development.
“We value innovation as one of our cultural traits. This is why our team has been accelerating open innovation projects together with the Espírito Santo innovation ecosystem. The results of this partnership are very promising and we hope to multiply them in the coming years”, he said.
For the Porto Process coordinator, Fernando Artilha, the partnership between Findeslab and Samarco is essential to foster sustainable innovation. "This is the second time we have participated as a partner in the program, and it gives us a lot of motivation to seek different solutions for activities that have been carried out in the same way for a long time and that have potential for gains in productivity, health, safety and the environment", he commented.
The Industrial Entrepreneurship Program is a joint initiative of Findes and Senai, with the objective of promoting open innovation and industrial entrepreneurship, connecting the challenges faced by large companies to innovative solutions proposed by startups.
Samarco at Findeslab
Challenge 1 – Port operational data management
The challenge aims to provoke startups to think of a systemic solution for communication with maritime agencies, shipowners and customers. In addition, this system should be able to organize the model for calculating the measurement of cargo by tonnage in the loading and unloading processes, aiming at data assertiveness, optimization of operational tasks and automation of information flow, which are fundamental features of the process.
Challenge 2 – Mechanized maintenance of the anti-corrosion protection of pier piles
The goal is to provoke startups to think of solutions that reduce or eliminate the need for diving to perform maintenance on the pier's steel piles and also reduce the need for manual painting of these structures.
