Samarco launches an exclusive Apprentice Program for young black men/women

There are 69 vacancies for four courses distributed between Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo

Samarco launched the Apprentice Program for young black people, as yet another affirmative action by the company to promote diversity, equity and inclusion. There are 69 vacancies for residents of Mariana, Ouro Preto and region, in Minas Gerais; and Anchieta, Guarapari, Piúma and region, in Espírito Santo. To enroll, the candidate must be attending high school or have already completed this level of schooling, aged between 17 and 20 years old. The Apprentice Program will be organized in partnership with Senai and applications must be made by December 14th, using the links below.

“This initiative was developed through the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Program. Our goal is to have an increasingly inclusive company and, for that, we seek the inclusion and development of minority groups, including black and brown people. It is an opportunity for young black people to have technical training and to develop themselves, becoming qualified professionals for the job market, as well as for future opportunities in our facilities”, pointed out the manager of Attraction and Development at Samarco, Adriana Gomes.

Activities will start in February 2023. The selected people will participate in theoretical classes for a year, at the Senai units in Mariana (MG) and Anchieta (ES). After this period, practical training will take place at Samarco's facilities, at the Germano Complex (Mariana/MG) and Ubu (Anchieta/ES).

Residents of Mariana, Ouro Preto and nearby region can choose between two types: industrial electrician or industrial machine maintenance mechanic. Those who live in Anchieta, Guarapari and Piúma will also have two options: electrician technician or maintenance mechanic for industrial machines.

The candidate cannot have previous experience as an apprentice in the same chosen area. The selection process will consist of an online test, individual interview and online psychological assessment.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Samarco launched the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Program (DE&I) in January this year, to strengthen actions to promote racial, gender, people with special needs and LGBTI+ equality.

Among a series of actions that have been developed, the company launched, in August, the Women in Mining Internship Program to boost the inclusion of women in the sector. Affirmative training was also offered to women residing in the communities where Samarco operates in Minas Gerais, such as specializations in Welding using the Mig-Mag process and Industrial Instrumentation.

With the DE&I Program, Samarco aims at being a company that ensures and disseminates diversity, equity and inclusion and that, based on the importance of human relations in the pursuit of sustainable mining, works with empathy, respect and transparency in favor of collective well-being.
