The new document provides guidelines for good practices and instructions on legal and sustainable conduct
Samarco launched a Supplier Code of Conduct this Wednesday (Oct-26), during a virtual meeting held for contractors and those participating in the Força Local program. The Code aims at reinforcing the alignment of suppliers with the company's principles and values, and guiding the implementation of responsible, ethical, legal and sustainable conduct. In addition to the executive board, the meeting brought together managers from the Compliance and Procurement areas to explain the new document.
“The development of this code is in line with Samarco's purpose of carrying out mining differently, in a safer and more sustainable manner. Since the resumption of our operations, we have revised our organizational culture and strengthened our principles of respect for people and sharing value with society. The Code of Conduct consolidates our values and guidelines with those of our partners”, said Najla Lamounier, Legal, Risks and Compliance Director at Samarco.
The Supplier Code of Conduct is part of the Compliance program, which adopts integrity as a guiding principle. The document also provides that contractors must act pursuant to specific legislation, with regard to anti-corruption.
“The Supplier Code of Conduct does not prevent the application of other internal rules and regulations also aimed at our suppliers. On the contrary, it is a complementary document to those that already exist”, explained Cássio Amin, Compliance and Ombudsman manager.
The Code's rules are divided into topics such as human rights, diversity, equity and inclusion, fraud and corruption, financial commitment, sustainability, data protection and information security, tax compliance, labor and social security compliance.
The rules must be observed by all suppliers, individuals or legal entities, that supply consumables, equipment, material or services to Samarco, inside or outside the company's facilities.
“The company already has its own code that guides the behavior of employees and various conducts that we do not allow, such as moral harassment and any type of prejudice. So this specific code for suppliers is in line with the same standard that we set internally. It is a document that will guide the actions we expect from our partners”, concluded the general manager of Supplies, Ailana Vilela.
