Samarco launches Women in Mining Internship Program

Registration for the selection process starts today and ends by Sep-25.

Samarco launched today (Aug-19), the Women in Mining Internship Program to boost the inclusion of women in the industry. The initiative, carried out for the first time in the company, offers 65 spots for students of technical and higher education courses, who are enrolled in the evening period and, in the case of higher education, studying from the 3rd semester on. The vacancies available are for the units in Belo Horizonte, Mariana, Rio Doce and Santa Cruz do Escalvado, in Minas Gerais, and Anchieta, in Espírito Santo. Applications must be made through Vagas.com by September 25th. [vagas.com.br/v2417190]Click here to apply.

The action is carried out within the scope of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Program (DE&I), created this year by the company, and furthers the purpose of doing mining differently, in addition to being aligned with the ESG agenda (environment, social and governance). The women-only internship program is also in line with the Statement of Commitment of the Brazilian Mining Institute (Ibram), signed by Samarco in 2019.

“Our goal is to increase the participation and effectiveness of women, cisgender and transgender. It is yet another action that aims at transforming the company into an increasingly healthy and inclusive environment for all. We want to contribute to correcting historical inequalities in society”, highlighted the general manager of Human and Organizational Development, Vera Lucia.

The selection process will consist of an online test, interviews and admission exams. Those selected will be able to work in the office in Belo Horizonte, in the complexes of Germano, Mariana (MG), Ubu in Anchieta (ES) or Candonga (Santa Cruz do Escalvado and Rio Doce). The program will offer a trainee scholarship, transportation voucher and food allowance.

In 2021, Samarco sponsored the Women in Mining Brasil (WIM Brasil) movement, which addressed actions to encourage the participation of women in leadership positions, ensuring the attraction and retention of new talent. Data from the 2019 WIM indicated that women represented only 13% of professionals working in the industry. The World Economic Forum foresees that the gender gap will still take 268 years to be fully eradicated.

Last year, Samarco carried out a survey to assess female representation. It was found that this public represented 16% of its workforce. “Our actions are being planned to promote equal opportunities and to make our contribution to making gender disparity an increasingly distant reality”, Vera stressed.
