Samarco participated in the debate “Technology, Sustainability and Risk Management in the Mining area”, promoted by Amcham this Tuesday (04/25), in Nova Lima (MG). President Rodrigo Vilela highlighted innovative initiatives and the use of digital technologies as allies for advances in risk management and in making mining more sustainable.
When talking about strategies adopted in the face of socio-environmental challenges, he underlined that the circular economy has become an opportunity to reduce the amount of waste generated, with the use of more sustainable consumables. He pointed out the company's experience with the use of marble co-product, which has among its main benefits the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions.
In relation to the ESG agenda (environment, society and governance), the president of Samarco described the partnership with the Institute Brasileiro de Mineração (Ibram) to honor the commitments made. “We are committed to ESG goals. It is a commitment we have made to society and the industry. Together with Ibram, with monitoring, data disclosure and information management, we showed that we are evolving in these good practices. It's a joint effort,” he said. Vilela also highlighted the contributions of the Mining Hub in the pursuit of solutions and alternatives to the challenges presented by the area.
The meeting had the CEO of Komatisu, Guilherme Santos, as moderator. The CEO of Lundin Mining Corporation, Ediney Drummond, and the president of Anglo American in Brazil, Wilfred Bruijn (Bill), participated in the event, broadcast online.
