Samarco presented results of actions to assure dam safety to the Mariana City Council

Representatives of Samarco presented, on Tuesday (21/06), the results of the dam safety actions developed by the company to the councilors of the Municipality of Mariana. The Global Industry Standard for Tailings Management (GISTM), which aims to ensure the stability of tailings disposal structures, was one of the main topics addressed during the meeting. GISTM aims to prevent harm to people and the environment.

Meetings with the Legislative Branch take place monthly to monitor the projects carried out, with different themes proposed by the Council and Samarco, related to the company's operations and of interest to the municipality.

“It is an important agenda to present the initiatives developed by Samarco in the territory, clarify doubts and reinforce the company's commitment to doing a different mining, being transparent about its processes and, as outlined in the agenda, reporting the advances achieved within the scope of GISTM and the Decharacterization Project,” said the person responsible for Samarco's Institutional Relations area, Rodolpho Samorini. Compliance with GISTM requirements is evaluated and monitored through an audit.

During the meeting, issues involving the resumption of operations, the progress of the works to decharacterize the Germano Dam and Pit, the technological rigor of the Monitoring and Inspection Center, which monitors all the company's geotechnical structures, as well as the Emergency Action Plan for Mining Dams (PAEBM), which carries out within its scope, several agendas with the communities included in the Self Rescue Zones (ZAS) as orientation seminars and drills.

In previous meetings, the discussions involved topics on the Socio-Economic Indicators Monitoring Program, the Program for Strengthening Local Suppliers, Socio-institutional Investment Policy, among others.
