Samarco promotes seminar on combating moral and sexual harassment for employees

Samarco reinforced the rules set out in the company's code of conduct, during the webinar “Combating harassment in mining”, held this Wednesday (Jul-13), for employees. The speakers discussed the importance of Compliance in organizations, with the main theme of combating moral and sexual harassment. In addition to clarifying the differences in types of conduct, the purpose was to encourage reporting not only within the business environment, but in all environments beyond the company.

“It bears emphasizing that at Samarco we do not tolerate any type of harassment. It is something we have to abolish from our society as a whole. It is a social issue and we have a great responsibility for it”, highlighted CEO Rodrigo Vilela, during the opening of the meeting.

The seminar was attended by Samarco's director representing BHP Nelly Pazó, by the Legal, Risks and Compliance director, Najla Lamounier, and mediated by the Compliance and Ombudsman manager, Cássio Amin.

Nelly Pazó highlighted the importance of reporting situations of harassment. “We must reflect on how we can get out of a passive approach and implement a more active approach to eradicating these behaviors. Sometimes everyone ignores an inappropriate joke, no one says anything. How can we act for a better industry: for example, by being an active observer. Questioning things,” warned Nelly.

“Harassment must be seen from various perspectives as a violation of human rights and security. This conversation celebrates the beginning of Compliance week. Combating harassment is a practice that is part of the program. We have our rules and values, desired and disapproved behaviors disciplined since the 80s. In other words, we have always been a company that cared about each other”, highlighted the Legal, Risks and Compliance officer, Najla Lamounier.

The officer also stressed that Samarco maintains an independent ombudsman channel that receives complaints of moral and sexual harassment, among other violations of the code of conduct and Human Rights.
