Samarco provides funding for structural investments in municipalities in the Rio Doce Basin

Samarco is providing R$ 421 million this Friday (09/11) to 45 municipalities in the Rio Doce basin. The amount corresponds to the first installment of the Structural Investment Agreements voluntarily entered into by the company with the municipal governments, which provide for total contributions of R$ 2.1 billion to support projects aimed at developing the territories.

The funds will be allocated to initiatives defined by the municipalities themselves, in areas such as health, education, infrastructure, economic development and quality of life, subject to governance and accountability rules and monitoring by the competent authorities and communities.

Mariana Lisbôa, Samarco’s Director of Sustainability, Government Relations and Communications, highlights that the initiative reinforces the company’s commitment to the development of the municipalities in the Rio Doce basin.

“Samarco remains committed to helping build solutions that generate lasting benefits for the territories where it operates. This transfer represents another step in this commitment and seeks to support structural projects defined by the municipalities themselves to address their development priorities,” she says.

The Structural Investment Agreements cover 45 municipalities and provide for installment payments over the coming years, in accordance with the commitments undertaken by the parties.
