Reopening allows some eligible groups of individuals and companies to have the opportunity to receive compensation; through the PID alone, more than 303,000 people have already been compensated
Samarco is beginning a new stage of the Definitive Compensation Program (PID), with the platform reopening between May 18 and July 1, 2026, for a period of 45 days, at the request of the Brazilian Justice Institutions. The reopening occurs as the review of previously submitted PID claims is being concluded, allowing admission to eligible individuals and companies whose claim was closed due to the submission of an invalid power of attorney or who had not previously entered the platform, if they so desire.
Those who missed the deadline to correct documents, accept the proposal, or who rejected the compensation proposal will have their claims reactivated, and the deadlines for response will be communicated to the lawyer through the system.
The program stands out for its simplified and reliable model, as well as for its speed of payment. The PID has compensated more than 90% of the people who entered the platform, establishing itself as one of the main individual remediation instruments.
Under the New Rio Doce Agreement, ratified by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) in November 2024, the PID is already showing significant results: by March 2026, more than 303,000 compensations had been paid. The compensation amount is BRL 35,000 per eligible individual or legal entity.
In addition to ensuring direct individual compensation to eligible individuals and companies, the program also contributes to local economic recovery by injecting, exclusively through the PID in previous openings, BRL 11.2 billion directly into the communities.
“The reopening of the PID occurs in response to a request from the Justice Institutions and ensures eligible people’s access to compensation, reinforcing our commitment to definitive remediation,” says Gustavo Selayzim, Samarco’s Financial and Remediation Officer.
During the reopening period, both eligible people who have not yet filed a claim and those whose claim was closed due to the submission of an invalid power of attorney may enter the PID. The initiative will also allow people who rejected the compensation offer, or who missed the deadline to accept it or to correct identity and proof of address documents, to have a new opportunity to respond within the system.
Enrollment in the PID may be made through the Public Defender’s Office, with pro bono assistance, or by private counsel with a valid power of attorney. The 5% attorney fees established in the New Rio Doce Agreement are paid by Samarco, with no deduction from the compensation amount. Any additional amounts agreed upon as attorney fees will not be paid by the company.

New Rio Doce Agreement
The New Rio Doce Agreement establishes a repair model structured around compensation, environmental recovery and strengthening public policies. Since the New Agreement, BRL 42.11 billion have been allocated to remediation actions, including BRL 24.42 billion in obligations carried out by Samarco, BRL 17.7 billion in all compensation channels and Emergency Financial Assistance to more than 337,000 people, and another BRL 17.68 billion transferred to the federal, state and municipal governments.
On the infrastructure front, the works in the districts of Novo Bento Rodrigues and Paracatu, in Mariana (MG), which began before the New Rio Doce Agreement, were completed in July 2025. Four additional properties, defined by residents after the New Rio Doce Agreement, remain under execution, with completion expected in 2026. In the environmental area, 46.4 thousand hectares have already been fenced off for compensatory reforestation, in addition to the protection of 4.4 thousand springs.
The progress also includes investments in health and regional infrastructure development. Disbursements of BRL 12 billion are planned for the health sector, with initiatives coordinated by the Ministry of Health, BRL 11 billion allocated to expanding basic sanitation, in addition to improvements to the road networks in Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, made possible by resources from the Novo Acordo do Rio Doce.
The initiatives provided for in the New Rio Doce Agreement can be followed on Samarco's website, which gathers public information on actions, disbursements, implementation stages and environmental reports.
