Samarco participated in the 1st Week of Economic Development in Ouro Preto, held between August 16th and 19th, promoted by the City Hall, through its Department of Development, Innovation and Technology. Samarco, which delivered the Economic Diversification Support Plan (PADE) to the municipality last year, was one of the contributors to the event. With the theme “Vocation for growth, integration for development”, the meeting brought together authorities, associations and enterprises to discuss initiatives that promote socioeconomic growth in the region.
“For Samarco it is an opportunity to develop closer ties with the municipality, seeking to strengthen the partnership for the planning of joint actions that contribute to economic diversification. These are fundamental debates so that we can advance in this objective, which is aligned with our purpose of sharing value with the territories where we operate”, pointed out the Institutional Relations Specialist, Guilherme Louzada, who participated in the opening of the event.
The 1st Week of Economic Development in Ouro Preto addressed themes such as innovation, entrepreneurship, tourism, culture, creative economy, cooperative activities, third sector, investments and financial management. Several activities were carried out, such as lectures, workshops and consultations at the Center for Art and Conventions of the Federal University of Ouro Preto (UFOP). The event also had a cultural, gastronomic and recreational program.
Plan
The first Economic Diversification Support Plan (Pade) was developed by Samarco in partnership with the government, the productive sector and civil society, and delivered in 2022 to the municipalities of Mariana and Ouro Preto. The document proposes business opportunities and activities that contribute to the diversification of the economy. It also indicates five strategic axes: agriculture, entrepreneurship, technology and innovation, tourism and use of tailings. Pade was a voluntary proposal, included as a pre-condition for obtaining the Corrective Operation License (LOC). The plan has been in progress since the end of 2020, involving several social actors and presenting its first results.
