Samarco trains 46 people in qualifications that included affirmative action courses for women

Samarco trained 46 people in four new classes in qualification courses provided to communities in Mariana (MG), last month. Two of them, exclusively for women. The courses are part of the company's initiatives to encourage job creation and community development in the areas where it operates, and include qualifications in the areas of Machine Mechanics, Industrial Equipment and Multiprocess Welding.

Mireia Bonifácio Silva do Carmo, one of the participants, was praised as an outstanding student in the Multiprocess Welder course and states that the learning process encouraged her to seek new job opportunities. “It was a different experience, a great learning experience! It was gratifying to get a new profession, which is usually occupied by men. Being a standout student gave me a different feeling, of going into the field and doing what I had learned,” Mireia emphasized.

Israel Floriano Vieira, who was also an outstanding student in the Industrial Machinery and Equipment Mechanics course, said that the qualification added knowledge. “I knew nothing about mechanics. This course has allowed me to grow professionally. It was a great opportunity that I embraced because I wouldn’t have been able to take a course like that anywhere else,” he said.

Diversity

Samarco's Human Resources analyst, Alan Resende, explains that the courses are planned according to the expected demand for professionals in Samarco's operations, in its contractors, as well as in the job market. He also highlights that the initiative is in line with the company's diversity and inclusion policies, materializing yet another step forward.

“We graduated four classes, two of which were for affirmative action positions, classes exclusively for women. We have been developing several projects, such as qualification offer, to increase diversity and have a more equitable team within our units. We understand diversity, different ideas and solutions are directly proportional to the improvement of our results”, highlighted Alan Resende.

Senai instructor, Eduardo Salabert, who taught the Industrial Machinery and Equipment Mechanics course, for women only, highlighted the commitment of the participants. “I was very pleased with the opportunity to train 14 women in a profession that is predominantly male. Their dedication was enormous, we went beyond the planned workload, we included some subjects from the technical course. This initiative is very important, Samarco is doing good by society by carrying out the training in partnership with Senai, he stressed.

Samarco's Institutional and Government Relations expert, Guilherme Louzada, said that the company's investment in training is essential for the purpose of encouraging the development of local communities. “The classes that are graduating are mostly people from the Mariana region, from nearby districts, who are qualified to work at Samarco or any other company, and can expand their opportunities for professional development,” he highlighted.
