Samarco´s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Program in action for two years already

Among the commemorative activities was a meeting on Tuesday (01/30) at the Germano Complex (MG), which brought together the IBRAM board, the directors of Women in Mining (WIM) in Brazil, signatories, the directors of BHP Brasil and the Director and team of the Mais Diversidade team to share experiences and learnings. The company explained the initiative to the visitors and held a round table discussion with employees about the program's progress and challenges.

The 30 people who took part in the activities were welcomed by Samarco's president, Rodrigo Vilela, the Legal, Risks and Compliance director, Najla Lamounier, and the general manager of Human and Organizational Development, Vera Lucia. Also present were the directors of BHP Brasil, Nelly Pazó and Carla Wilson, and the director of Mais Diversidade, João Torres.

"The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion program is very important to us, as it is a way of materializing our value of 'respect for people'. Here at Samarco, we believe that a diverse and inclusive environment continuously drives innovation, collaboration and organizational learning, enabling better results for the business and for society," said Vera Lucia, General Manager of Human and Organizational Development.

The visit was an opportunity to share ideas and opportunities for promoting diversity and equity in the sector. "We know that we still have a long way to go and that we will only move forward collectively. This program was created to strengthen our purpose of ensuring a healthier and more inclusive environment for all employees and contractors. We believe that our actions can have an impact on the environment outside the company and inspire others too," said Vera.

The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Program is aligned with the ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) agenda, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations and Ibram's Charter of Commitment. Several actions have been promoted within the scope of the program to include, attract and promote professionals from minority groups: women, black people, people with disabilities and LGBTI+.
