Samarco’s Legal and Risk Director participates in seminar on the Judiciary and the business environment

Samarco's Legal and Risk Director, Najla Lamounier, participated, this Monday (17), in São Paulo, in the seminar “The Judiciary in debate: legal security, precedents and jurisdictional service”, promoted by the Folha de S. Paulo news company.

Najla was part of the panel “The Judiciary and the Business Environment”, alongside the Federal Attorney General (AGU), Jorge Messias, and the judge of the Court of Justice of Espírito Santo (TJES), Trícia Navarro. The opening was led by Sérgio Renault, who was Secretary of Judicial Reform at the Ministry of Justice between 2003 and 2005. Mediation was handled by Pierpaolo Bottini, a lawyer and former Secretary of Judicial Reform between 2005 and 2007.

The debate brought together representatives from the Judiciary branch, the Executive branch, and the public sector to discuss issues related to legal certainty, the predictability of decisions, and the impact of the Judiciary's actions on the country's business environment.

During the panel, Najla highlighted the role of the Judiciary in the country's economic development and stressed that “investors need legal certainty and predictability to plan, and for that, they need to trust the decisions that come from the Judiciary”. When discussing the New Rio Doce Agreement, approved by the Supreme Federal Court (STF), the director stated that the renegotiation creates conditions to end Public Civil Actions and individual lawsuits. “A broad perspective is needed for decisions that contribute to resolving conflicts and allow the private sector to offer good work for the benefit of society,” she concluded.
